Our Mission
-
The objective of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Cleveland, Inc.
is to foster Jewish family history and genealogical research.
-
The Society educates the public and disseminates information
on Jewish records, sources, techniques, archives and libraries,
and has done so since its inception in 1982.
-
The Society maintains its own research library and encourages
the collection of genealogical material and family histories. The
research library , which is available to any researcher, is
housed in the Sam and Emma Miller Library of the Arthur J. Lelyveld
Center for Jewish Learning at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple. The
Library is open when the building is open.
-
Hours the Library is staffed:
Monday: 12:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Sunday: 9 a.m. to noon during Religious School
-
Summer Hours, end of May through Labor Day:
Tuesday and Thursday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
-
The Society also assists out-of-town researchers to locate
their Cleveland roots. Our research committee members guide
researchers to institutions, web sites, and other resources to
find genealogical information.
Before writing us with a
question, please download and fill out a copy of our
Research Request Form
,
and attach the completed form to your e-mail.
Send the form and e-mail to our Research Chair at
Research@ClevelandJGS.org In particular, the last two
items "What resources have you used specific to what you already
have/know?" and "What documented information do you already
have?" are vital so that we do not duplicate the work you've
already done. Since the form os a word processor document,
feel free to supply as much a=information as possible. The
spaces will expand as you type.
-
The Society has a large collection of genealogy materials available
for researchers,
A copy of the Bylaws of the Society
(as amended and restated on December 2, 2012)
