The Society maintains its own research library and encourages the collection of genealogical material and family histories. The research library, open to any researcher, is housed in the Sam and Emma Miller Library of the Arthur J. Lelyveld Center for Jewish Learning at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple, located at 23737 Fairmount Blvd. in Beachwood, Ohio.
The Library is open when the building is open (every day, all day and most weekday evenings) and researchers are welcome to visit at any time. If there is a class or a meeting taking place there, please use discretion and work quietly.(Certain exceptions may occur.)
Please note that although the Library is open when the building is open, the Society does not staff the library, and the synagogue's professional librarian is only present at limited times on a part time basis.
Most of our collection is now included in the Library Catalogue, which can be accessed by Clicking Here: http://temple.acftlibrary.org
Members of the Society are happy to assist out-of-town researchers trying to locate their Cleveland roots. Our research committee members guide researchers to institutions, web sites, and other resources to find genealogical information.
When writing us with a question, please download and fill out our Research Request Form, and attach the completed form to your e-mail. Send the form and your message to our Research Chair at Research@JGSCleveland.org
The last two items on the form:
"What resources have you used specific to what you already have/know?" and
"What documented information do you already have?"
are vital so that we do not duplicate work you've already done. Since the form is a word processor document, feel free to supply as much information as possible. The spaces will expand as you type.
If you do not receive an acknowledgement within 2 days, please send a follow-up directly to the research chair at ResearchChair@jgscleveland.org.
We are willing to do up to one hour's worth of free research. If you would like to make a donation in appreciation, please note the reason, and send a check payable to JGS of Cleveland to:
