Do I need to be Jewish or an experienced genealogist to participate?
No. We are an active learning community and welcome people from all faiths and backgrounds interested in Cleveland history and Jewish genealogy. We are grateful for the support of our members and encourage new members to get involved. In 2023, we celebrated our 40th anniversary with special activities and a record number of members. We hope you will join us as we move forward and celebrate a new era.
Is Jewish genealogy different from other genealogy?
Yes. All genealogists research the same basic information: names, marriages, immigration, deaths, DNA; but the history, religion, languages, and customs of the Jewish people uniquely influence our research and areas of interest.
How can I get involved?
Check Us Out. We believe in accessibility and the importance of providing a variety of diverse educational programs and resources. In the past 3 years, more than 2,000 people enjoyed our monthly Zoom programs with national experts! Program handouts and recordings are available to members on our website. Please use our calendar for special events and opportunities and visit our new Genealogy Discussion Group and Coffee Talk at TTTI Hartzmark Library. Stay tuned for more announcements.
Please consider volunteering!
Volunteers are our biggest asset. Is that you? Email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss your interest and availability.
How can I share my genealogy interest with a friend or family member?
It's easy. We hope you'll consider gifting a JGSC membership or inviting a friend/family member to an event.
Is JGSC a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization?
Yes. JGSC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that accepts donations. Please go to Donation or view our One-Minute How-To Video: How to make a donation to JGSC. Thank you - all gifts are deeply appreciated.
